CIVIC TALKIES.

'THE LOCKED DOOR." To-morrow sight is the last occasion picture patrons fill have of seeing and hear* jng "The Locked Door," a dramatic romance j*. !!<l J3j&ich the interest chiefly centres round t" ■ ifeu's endeavours to prevent the in.origination of her husband in a shooting tragedy. Tho cast is an excellent one, Rod La Rooquo being a moat suave and accomplished villain. The heroino, Barbara Stanwyck, is a newcomer to the films but an experienced stage actress, as her acting indicates. She carries the brant of the work and takes the honours easily. William Boyd and Betty Bronson form the quartet of stars, but much might be said of the lesser parts. They are well filled and moot capably acted. Mr Harvey's contributions on the grand organ are "William Tell," "Roses in June," and "Minuette in O."

"HURRICANE.** SABRON-DONOVAN MATCH. Th* new programme at the Civic on Saturday is a novel one in -many respects. The raoin feature is the first all-talking picture of the sea, "Hurricane," made by Columbia. It will be remembered that it was this corporation which made the first all-talking picture of the air, "Flight." In addition to "Hurricane," the Civio has secured for sola presentation in Christchurch the official filnv of the Sarron-Donovan fight, held at New Plymouth. Auckland and Wellington reports state that the film has settled many arguments as to whether the referee was justified in awarding the fight to Donovan, and no doubt there are .many followers of boxing in Christchurch who will be glad of the opportunity of seeing this important bout per medium of the screen. "Hurricane" deals with life in the days of the wind-jammer. Hobart Bosworth, who takes the part of "Hurricane" Martin, is an old sea-dog, and so is Ralph Ince, the director. Bosworth lives the part over and over' again, and those who have seen the film declare it most realietio, especially the etorm and the mutiny. The producers state that while it is admitted the mutiny was it really devoloped into a _ most realistic fight, and the camera caught it all. Supporting this excellent programme will be Mr Leslie V. Harvey's contribution on the. grand organ, a ' selection from "Faust," "Schon Rosmarin" bv Kreisler, and a novelty number, "The Toymaker's Dream." Box plan arrangements are as usual.
