—« MAGISTERIAL. WEDNESDAY. (Before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Florence Gore pleaded guilty to a charge of being found drunk in a public place. She had been twice convicted for the same offence within the previous six months. She was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment. DRUNKEN TAXI-DRIVER. William Henry Hill, a taxi-driver, aged 32 years, who was represented by Mr C. S. Thomas, pleaded guilty to a charge of being found drunk in charge of a taxi. Sub-In-spector Shanahan said that Hill and another man had been found asleep in the taxi, and it had taken the constable about two minutes to waken them. Mr Thomas said that Hill had had s very busy afternoon, had several drinks, and had not had time for any tea. He Btarted for Brighton with a fare, but felt unwell and pulled to the side of the road and stopped 'his car with the idea of sleeping it off. It was hard to see what else he could have done in the circumstances. The Magistrate suggested that he could have left the taxi, and then he would not have been found drunk in charge of it. Hill was fined £ls and costs, four months being allowed to pay the fine. UNLICENSED WIRELESS SETS. For having unlicensed radio sets the following were fined:—James Brown, £3 and costs; Oharles Kent, £1 and costs; Mortimer Suckling. 30s and costs. DISEASED ORCHARDS. Prank William Claridge (Mr W. R. Lascelles) pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to eradicate diseases from his orchard, in accordance with the provisions of the Orchard and Garden Diseases Act. He was (Tried £1 and costs. For pillar offences the following were fined:—William Doling, SI and costs: Thomas A. Gates. £1 and costs; Richard Wilson Hnwke, £1 and costs; Thomas Stanley, £1 and costs. The Parks Committee at Dartford, Kent, has been anxious to remova the war guns from the park, but owing to the objection of tho British Legion they have been merely moved to another position.
