MR G. C. RODDA'S PROMOTION. [THE PBESS Speclsl Berrlce.] WELLINGTON, February 24. The Public Service Commissioner announced to-day that he had appointed Mr G. C. Rodda, at present AssistantAccountant to the Treasury, to the position of Assistant-Secretary to the Treasury, etc., previously held by Mr A. D. Park, who recently became Secretary to tne Treasury on the retirement of Mr R. E. Hayes. Mr llodda was born at Stafford, Westland, in 1878, his parents having arrived from England in the early colonial days, and his father being a well-known man in Westland and a J.P. .for many years. Mr Rodda received his secondary education at the Hokitika High School, at which he was the holder of a scholarship, and he matriculated in 1894. As a result ot passing the Junior Civil Service examination, he joined the Government Life Insurance Department as a cadet in that year and served both at Wellington and at Napier. In 1902 he was transferred to the Treasury. On the outbreak of war in 1914 he was attached to the Defence Department as officer in charge of war expenses. the work of which involved tlio accounting for the whole of the war expenditure for which New Zealand assumed liability, also the payment ot allotments, wives', children's and other allowances to dependents and relatives of members of the New "Zealand Expeditionary Fcsrces. At one stage of thiß work the staff employed under him reached a total of 500. In June, 1919, he received the M.B.E. decoration for these services, and returned to the Treasury in the following year. In 1921 he passed the professional accountants' examination and was admitted as a member of the New Zealand Society of Accountants in 1922. Tn 1925 he was promoted to the position of Chief Inspector of the Treasury, and in the following year to the position of Assistant-Account-ant. Mr Rodda has also occupied the position of secretary to the Local Government Loans Board since its inception.
