LERMOND AND GOLDING.
ENGLISH PARK, TO-MORROW. Leo Lermond, the famous American champion, will make his final appearance in Christchurch to-morrow evening at the Eng- j lish Park Stadium, when he will make an attempt to lower the New Zealand half-mile record, at present held by Lloyd ■ Hahn, his ! fellow-Boston club-mate. Hahn's time is lmin 56 l-ssec, and given good conditions these figures should go by the board. Provided he is not overtaxed, he will also be seen in a special mile handicap which should provide a great race. • Holding the phenomenal quarter-mile champion from New South Wales, has been running splendid quarter-miles since arriving in thic country, and his time of 50 1-5 on the Caledonian Ground in Dunedin marks him as a runner of extraordinary brilliance. P® r ' haps he is the greatest quarter-miler—either amateur or professional—ever produced in Australia. He will make an attempt to lower the Dominion quarter-mile record at present standing to the credit of Jf' Pnrker, of California, the great runner who visited these shores in 14, and ran a 49 1-5 quartet at Masterton. It is not too much to say that, given o^ e e n . these figures are well within Goldmg s capa bl Just'at present, with the Canterbury championships next Satu-rday, all 'be local ath letes are runaing at the top of their form, and Bplendid running will be witnessed in aU Thl en c t ycling, too, is very kecn wnh the New Zealand chatnpionships < early next month —there is great competition among the leaders for inclusion m the team, so that there will be plenty of close finishes to-mor-row night. _____
