LERMOND-GOLDING MEETING.

+ - ENGLISH PARK, TO-NIGHT

The international mile at English Park tonight has aroused tremendous interest, and as the runners are in good form a great struggle will be witnessed. Lermond is pleased with the track, and soys it is very fast while Savidan is of the opinion that he is seconds faster than if he were running in Auckland. Patrons may expect a great race from the gun, and the pace will be a cracker all the way. It is anticipated that the time will be round about 4min 2°sec. There is no doubt about Lermond s brilliance over the mile journey. He is looked upon as the most promising miler in the world to-dsy, and the fact that he has run 4min 13sec for the distance marks him as ] a star of the first magnitude. Savidan has been consistent for many years, and local followers of the sport will remember his brilliant, wins in the national championships at Lancaster Park two years ago. He won both titles in convincing style. Ho reports that he is in splendid condition and expects to run a good race. Barnes, the local crack, astonished everyone by running a mile from Bcratch in 4min 25sec, so, with a little improvement, he will be with the leaders. Lermond ran 4min 26sec for a mile in Australia ,recently, so all three have about the same recent performances to their credit. The meeting of Golding and Fleming >» the quarter-mile test wilt produce another stirring race. Both men are in tip-top form, and it is difficult to say who will bo the winner. Here again the time should be fast, and it is quite on the cards that SOsec will be beaten for the journey. The Bprint events will be decidedly attractive, for Leadbetter, Cordery, Fleming, and Jenkins will appear on the back marks. The women's races have attracted all the most prominent girls in the sport, end close finishes should be the order of the day. The cycling events have drawn splendid entrances, and all the best amateur wheelmen will be seen in action. It is not too much to say that Grose and O'Brien are two of the finest amateurs ever produced in this country. At present they are showing ex* ceptional form, and their meeting to-night will be full of interest.

The first event will start punctually at 8 o'clock, and patrons are advised to be early in attendance to secure a good 'vantage point.
