The need for greater unity of action in the. South Island i& the matter of obtaining grounds jfod facilities for civic aviation has been .felt for some time. Hie granting of a lioense to the Auckland Aero C3ub to hold an art iraion opened out a prospect of public support which was utilised by the friends of the Aero Olahs; as presenting one of the 'most popular methods of securing much needed munitions of war,

Representations made in the proper quarter resulted in a license being granted by the Minister for Internal Affairs (Hon. P. A. de la Perrelle) authorising an art union to be called tbe "Golden Wings," (or the purpose of raising funds for the three Aero Clubs of Canterbury, Otago, and Southland. This art union will be publicly launched at the air pageant at Sockburn, when the tickets will be on sale. The outstanding features are that the first prize is the largest yet offered, £2500. and a list of 114 other prizes, all payable in alluvial gold, which lies for safe custody in the ■■Bank of New Zealand, Dunedin, awaiting dispatch to the successful participants Th® public of Canterbury have thas • the opportunity of opening the campaign.
