The barometer showed a falling tendency. . Wellington—The weather in Wellington to-day was overcast but fine, with a fair north-westerly blowing. The morning was very close. Dunedin—The clear easterly weather which had prevailed in Dunedin for over a week Was followed yesterday by a cloudy sky with a light to fresh breeze from the northwest. The day, however, was fine and very warm, with aunshino in the afternoon. The maximum temperature was 75 degrees in the Bhade at mid-day. The barometer was fairly high and steady. Forecast. A depression is gradually moving on to New Zealand. A shallow cyclone appears to be developing in its northern portion, and is heading towardß northern New Zealand. The forecast is for winds north to north-west, and moderate to strong, changing to southerlies in the far south within about 24 hours. Seas in New Zealand waters are likely to be rough in Cook Strait, and smooth to moderate elsewhere; in the Tasman Sea, mod-

erate to fresh northerly winds in the eastern Tasinan, but backing to southerly later in the southern portion, with seas moderate. The weather will probably be cloudy generally, with rain extending from far northern and southern districts, and becoming fairly general, especially over the North Island, during tho next 24 hours.
