RECORDS BROKEN. WELLINGTON CHAMPIONSHIPS. (FBBSB ASSOCIATION TXLIGHAJt.) WELLINGTON, February 13. The Wellington swimming championship* wort' held at Lower Hutt to-night. Miss K. Miller won the lOOyda ladies' championship in 78 3-s*ec, breaking her own Centre record by two seconds. Miss M. House won the 50yds junior girls' championship in 35£sec —a Centre record. K. Spry retained the 220 yds Centre breaststroke championship, his time being 3min 2 3sec. Other results were:—looyds intermediate boys' championship—B, Gallete. Ideal weather prevailed for the annual carnival of the Ashburton Amateur Swimming Club at the school baths last evening. There was a large attendance. Interest was added to the events by the appearance of L. Moorhouse (Christchurch), champion back-stroke swimmer of New Zealand, and A. Stokes (Christchurch), Canterbury champion. In addition, a number of other prominent swimmers competed from both Christchurch and Timaru. - The Herbert Smith's Trust Cups for girls and boys, nine and under fifteen years, were won by Miss D. Smith and B. Knox respectively. . . Much interest was also evinced m the lOOyds relay race for the De Beer Cup, open to all clubs, in which sixteen teams competed. It was won by Ashburton No. 1 team. . Exhibitions of diving and back-stroke and double-oar swimming were given by T. Thompson (Christchurch), the county champion diver, L. Moorhouse, and A. T. Bolam, respectively. The cups won during the evening were presented by Mr J. W. Bowden (president of the club) at the conclusion of the programme.
