LIFE-SAVING.

NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL MEETS. A meeting of the New Zealand Council of the Royal Life-Saving Society was held, Mr G. E. Billson (president) presiding over a fair attendance. Correspondence was received from the Opunake Surf Club asking for assistance towards the purchase of a new reel and line. The application having been endorsed by the Taranaki Head Centre, it was decided to contribute £5 towards the reel. A similar request from the Waimairi Beach Surf Club was held over for endorsement by the Canterbury Head Centre. The Canterbury Head Centre applied for a grant of £ls towards the cost of the beach patrols, but, owing to the very limited amount of money at the Council's disposal, it was decided that the Council, though in entire sympathy with the scheme, was unable to comply with the request. The Wellington Head Centre wrote asking the Council to circularise all Councils and bodies controlling baths asking them, when appointing bath custodians, to make a knowledge of life-saving a necessary queliAcation. It was decided to circularise all Head Centres asking them to draw',/the attention of all bath-controlling bodies in their respective districts to the necessity for the suggested rule. The Dominion secretary, Mr F. J. Lawrence Bcott. gave a report of the New Zealand Surf Life-Saving chamiponship meeting held in Greymouth last month. The report stated that the meeting was held in rain, and on a beach devoid of anv convenience in the way of a pavilion. The buoy was washed ashore during the day. In spite of the difficulties, some very good performances were put up. The council decided to adopt all the recommendations, with the exception of the redraft of the competition rules, which is not yet to hand. It was decided to ask the Auckland Head Centre to see if the recent very brave rescue in the north of Auckland had been reported to the Royal Humane Society, and if not, to report it. Accounts amounting to £l3 15s 6d were passed for payment.
