The latest information regarding bridges under construction in Canterbury shows that progress has been made as follows :

The contract time for completion is March 4th. All the piers, with the exception of the second pier from the southern bank, have been completed ; this was the pier for which the two cvlinders swept away bv the flood were intended. Girders have been erected over six spans out of the eight of which the bridge consists. The concrete decking has been placed on four spans. The position is that there is one pier to be done, two spans have yet to be erected, four spans have yet to have the concrete decking done, and the timber handrail for the whole length of the bridge has yet to be erected. It is expected that the bridge will be completed about the middle of Mav. / Ashburton traffic bridge: The contractor, Mr T. Pheloung, has started' tlic work of driving the piles.
