MASTER PLUMBERS.

REMITS CONSIDERED

Tlie annual conference of the New Zealand Federation of Master Plumbers was continued yesterday morning, when delegates considered remits trom the various centres. Before the main business of the day commenced, the chairman, Mr C. W. Oborn (Christchurch) said that he had observed in the morning paper news to the effect that Mr W. Cecil Prime, secretary of the Federation, had been appointed one of the assessors representing the employers under the Arbitration Act, and he wished to congratulate Mr Prime on receiving the appointment. Speakers from the other centres spoke to the same effect, in appreciation of Mi- Prime's abilities. Consideration was given to the following refriit: "That an apprentice in his last year shall be considered a journeyman for the purpose of apportioning the number of apprentices." (From Timaru.) The secretary stated that twelve months ago the Christchurch Association made application to the Court_ in the terms of this remit, but nothing was achieved. There seemed to bo small prospect of gaining anything in this direction at present, considering the* attitude of the Court, and the position in Auckland, and it would be wise not to push the matter. It was pointed out that while the plumbers' trade had a six years' apprenticeship, other trades had only five, and this should be borne in mind when considering the question. No action was taken in this matter. The delegates adjourned to pay a visit of inspection to the factorv of Messrs Quill, Morris, and Co., Ltd. In the afternoon a friendly bowling match was played. To-day the visitors are to spend the day at a picnic at one of the beaches, resuming conference on Fridav morning
