YESTERDAY'S TRANSACTIONS. Markets were lively on call to-day, there was spirited bidding for most classes of investment stocks, and there was a large turnover, bank stocks attracting; the bulk of the business. New Zealand Government, 4£ per cent. tax. free, 1938, stock changed hands at £99, and the 5* per cent., 1936, stock at £99 2s 6d, market closing firm for both issues. Bank of Adelaide shares, which have been quiet for some time, were released at £7 12s 6d, sellers staying in at that price, buyers at" £7 10s. Australian Bank of Commerce were fractionally weaker, with dealings at 25s lid, and further sellers at 25s 10d, buj'ers at 25s 9d. Bank of Australasia shares hardened to £ll 15s, and more were wanted at £ll 17s, sellers at £l2 ss. Commercial Bank of Australia were firm at 23s Bd, but closed weaker at 23s 6d sellers, 23s 4d buyers—the "rights" remained at 2s 4d sellers and business, buyers at 2s 2d. National Bank of Australasia £5 paid shares were taken at £7 14s, market closing £7 12s buyers, £7 13s sellers. Bank of New Zealand were released at 58s Gd and 58s 3d, market closing oßs buyers, 58s 6d sellers. Union Bank of Australia wore firmer, with dealings at £ll 19s and £ll 18s fid, and more were available at £ll 18s (kl. buyers at £ll 17s 6d. Bank of New South Wales appeared weaker, with sellers at £4l 7s fid, buyers at £4O 17s 6d. New Zealand Insurance were marked ex dividend of lid per share, buyers 43s Bd, sellers 43s lid. Goldsbrough, Morts had dealings at 33s Gd, and there were further sellers at 33s 4d, buyers at 32s 7d—a late sale on 11th instant was reported at 33s 9d. National Mortgage shares eased to 72s Gd sellers, 70s buyers. New Zealand Refrigerating Company 10s paid shares changed hands at 5s 6d, and more were wanted at 5s 7d. sellers at 5s 9d. Christchurcli Gas shares were released at 2os 9d. and Timaru Gas, cum dividend, at 24s ]od. New Zealand Breweries shares were firm, with dealines at 81s, market closing Gd on either side. Crown Brewery shares sold at 8s 3d, closing quotations 8s buyers, 10s 6d sellers. Staples Brewery shares wero firmer at 48s Gd, buyers and business, sellers .it 48s 9d. British Tobaccos had dealings at 435, 43s Id, 43s 2d, and 43s Id, closing quotations 42s lid buyers, 43s Id sellers. Mt. Lyells changed hands at 3Gs Id, and 35s lOd, and there were further buyers at the lower figure, sellers at 35s lid. Buyers of Victoria Nyanza Sugar shares movpd up to 41s 3d, sellers at 42s 3d. Wilson's Cement shares were taken at 30s 3d. and there were further buyers at 38s 2d, no sellers.
