PIONEER SPORTS CARNIVAL
MONDAY EVENING NEXT. The variety sports carnival to be staged by the Pioneer Sports Club at the English Park. Stadium next Monday evening will comprise a number of events that should readily appeal to all classes, amongst which there will, be a speed competition between a Baby Austin and a Singer Junior, driven by 0. R. Hayward and J. R. Tench respectively. ■ •■'.■ The light cars will also try conclusions with two of' our fastest local sprinters, R. Cordery and J. J. Brownlee, both of whom are in tip-top form just now. The distance will be of 150 yds from a standing start. There will be motor-cycle racing, which should produce many thrills. An event that should prove of considerable interest is the one-mile medley wheel race, in which high bikes, low bikes, eccentric wheeled bikes, tandems, sociables, and tricycles will compete; half-mile high bike mounting and. dismounting, also a high bike open handicap and endless novelties, including bicycle steoplechasing, which should provide a most interesting evening's amusement. English Park will be thrown open to motorists who intend competing at this meeting at 5.30 to-morrow evening for an hour s training. _ .' Special trams will run to the Park.on Monday evening, whilst the New Brighton Band will provide popular music.
