' ♦— ;• NORTH BEACH AND WAIMAIRI. .A meeting of the North Beach and Waimairi Progress League "was held in the Lodge room, Bowhill road, Mr E. A. M. Leaver presiding over a fair attendance. A letter was received from Mr R. J. Ecroyd, supplementing the recent request of the united Burgesses Association for the Progress L*»gue to affiliate again with the Association.' It was decided to comply with the request of the deputation which waited on ' the League and to reaffiliate with the Association. A member then drew the attention of the League to the proposal of the Tramway Board to remote the rails from Burwood to the sea, and substitute trolley buses. The chairman pointed out that at no time had the League ever opposed the opening or I keeping open of the No. 10 line. It was reported that the estimated cost of renewing the line was X 28.000, while the cost of the trolley buses and overhead gear was estimated at £24,000. ,On the motion of Mr S. Brown it was agreed that this League expresses disapproval of the proposal of the Tramway Board to remove the rails between Burwood and the Oione Cafe, believing that the renewal of this portion of the track would be a cheaper proposal than the cost of installing trolley buses, and would avoid disconnexion of the tramway circuit which has existed for many yean, and as previously stated by the Board, buses would be quite inadequate to cone with the rush traffic Messrs H. E. .Elliot and A. 8. Cooksley Were elected members. It was proposed that steps be taken to organise a beaeb carnival In aid of the' Hall fund. Accounts for £4 15s wert passed for payment.
