EXHIBITION HALL
PRELIMINARY ARRANGE-
MENTS.
PLANNING THE NEW BUILDING.
Matters relating to the purchase of the site on Moorhouse avenue, opposite the railway station, for the purposes of an Exhibition Hall have not been lying dormant during the holiday period, as a representative of The Press ascertained on Saturday from Mr Denys Hoare, secretary of the Canterbury Manufacturers' Association.
"Over the holidays," Mr Hoare said, "the sub-committees of the Association dealing with matters connected with the Exhibition Hall have been busy on two things. The first is the completing of the negotiations for the purchase of the section. There are several interests involved, and the completing of the purchase is not a simple matter. "The other thing is the planning of the lay-out of the building in anticipation of the acquisition of the site. This is a somewhat complicated business on account of the various uses to which the hall is to be devoted.
"At the same time the necessary legal steps are being taken for the establishment of the limited liability company which is to own the hall. The principal owners will be, of course, the Canterbury Manufacturers' Association. The Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association, which has been associated with the Manufacturers' Association in holding recent winter shows and industrial exhibitions, has been invited to take shares in this company, but, so far, has not signified that it intends to do so."
