PEDESTRIAN CONTROL.
SAN FRANCISCO METHODS. In San Francisco now it is a case of "watch your step—and your signals!" for the regulation of pedestrian traffic is in full swing. The rule in: "Keep your feet on the kerb if the lights are red—and when they say 'go,' run!" In addition to the initial operation of the new pedestrian signals, the progressive timing of vehicular signals will be made effective, and vehicular traffic flow is expected to be increased from eight to fen miles an hour. The new plan will also provide greater safety for pedestrians and eliminate congestion. There are 188 of the pedestrian signals set on green posts at all inter sections on Market street from the Embarcadero to Van Ness Avenue. Pedestrians at Market street, intersections will cross on the "green" and stop on the "red" lights on those nignals, disregarding the signals on the yellow standards, which will be for vehicular traffic onlv.
Pedestrians arc warned to obey pede* trian signals only. Step from the kerb only when the pedestrian signal shows a green light and the word "do." Slop when the pedestrian signal shows red and the word "Stop." Cross the street only at marked cross-walks. Motorists are warned not to cheat on "Stop" and "Go" signals and to give pedestrians the right-of-way at marked cross-walks.
