Two horses competed in the Whitelodge Steeplechase at Haydock Park today, Sardonyx and The Breeder. The former fell at the second fence, but was remounted, and started in pursuit of The Breezer, which was still leading when he fell at the last fence. Mias Jean Sanday, daughter of the trainer of The Breezer, rushed on to the course, mounted the horse, and tried to catch Sardonyx, amid wild cheering, but failed. The stewards are uncertain if The Breezer is entitled to second place, and referred the matter to the National Hunt Committee. RUGBY. In the county football competition, Yorkshire defeated Cheshire at Brail ford by 11 points to 6.
