CAR RUNS INTO POST.

TWO PASSENGERS INJURED. [THE PRESS Special lerrlct.] AUCKLAND, January 3. Two men were injured when a service car in which they were travelling crashed into a telegraph post near Drury this afternoon. George Charles Mammond, of Cambridge, married, aged 63, received a fracture of the wrist and suffered from shock, and Stephen Sullivan, of Waihi, single, aged 38, suffered head injuries. Both were admitted to the Auckland Hospital. The car, an eight passenger vehicle, was one of the fleet of Direct Motors, Limited, and was travelling from Auckland to Hamilton with seven passengers, a woman and six men, in addition to the owner-driver, William Sherry, of Hamilton. As it neared Drury the right front tyre was punctured, causing the car to skid and run into a telegraph post. The passengers had a remarkable escape. All in the car, except the driver, suffered from either cuts or bruises. The vehicle was badly wrecked. Sullivan was partly thrown through the glass and was rescued in an unconscious condition. Just before the impact Mrs Costello, a passenger for Botorua, who was in the front seat, opened the door and fell out, striking her head. She suffered from concussion, but after receiving attention at a nearby house recovered sufficiently to return to Auckland.
