During the year notice was received of the publication of new books (apart from pamphlets and reprints of articles in scientific journals, etc.) by 41 Rhode* Scholars. In the course of the venr 1030 appointments will'be made to the IP.'tl scholarships. Scholars so elected will come into residence in October, lib!!. Rhodes House at Oxford. Rhodes Jlou.se was formally opened on May 10th. Sir Otto Beit, Senior Rhodes Trustee, declared tlio building open, arid offered to the University tho use of the library for the purposes of the Jirxlleian. Tliis offer was accepted on behalf of tin; University by Lord G rev of Fallsloii, Chancellor of the University. The oidv other speaker was M r J. 11. In .Tilly, there was a gathering in Oxford of old Rhodes Scholars, to celebrate tho 2oth anniversary of the injiogtir.'.t ion of the Rhodes Scholarships. In 1903 a few Rhodes Scholars came into residence. from Germany and South Africa; but the full working of the scholarships dates only from 190). The celebrations lasted from July 4th to July 11th. The central event was Ihe dinner in Rhodes House on July Tith (the 76th aniversarv of the birth of Mr Rhodes), at, which the Prince of Wales wa«: present, with Mr Baldwin in the chair, and all tho Trustees present. His Majesty's Government gave a reception to meet, the Rhodes Scholars in Westminster Hall on July lllh. Publications during tlie vear include "Onward?" by W. T. G. Airev, 19"0 New Zealand Rhodes Scholar. Tlis book is a study r>f tho League of Nations and the Principle* of International Co-operation. Dr. A. E. Pnrritt. has brought out " Athletics" (jointly with D. G. A. Lowe).
