MAY BE ATTEMPTED IN NEW ZEALAND. [THE PRESS Special Service.] AUCKLAND, January 3. An attempt to break tlie world's motor speed record will probably be made towards the end of next week <>y Norman (Wizard) Smith, the Australian racing motorist, who arrived on Tuesday from Sydney with his car, Anzao. He will leave to-morrow morning for the north to inspect the Ninety Mile beach, and ihe speed car will be dispatched by steamer to Awann i. The choice of a suitable track rests between the Ninety Mile Beach and Muriwai Beach, atul is favourably impressed with its advantages. ]t is likely that he will drive his ear then? at the motor race meeting to be held oil January 25tli. Tho attempt on the world's record for 10 miles, however, will probably bo made at the Ninety Mile Beach. Mr Smith is receiving the co-operation of the Auckland Automobile Association in this endeavour, and Mr 11. Butcher and a number of officials will leave for the North next Thursday to record the time, in accordance with the recognised world's standards.
