TWO AEROPLANES COLLIDE.

A message from Santa Monica (California) states that tea persons were occupants of aeroplanes used for motion picture purposes were killed when the aeroplanes collided at an altitude of 3000 feet, and fell into, the sea. (Received January 3rd, S p.m.) NEW YORK, January 2. A later message from Santa Monica, states that two commercial cabin aeroplanes -were believed to be carrying five persons each, when they collided three miles off the shore, and plunged int>» the sea. It is considered probable that all were killed. The aeroplanes were flying in a "stunt" performance for the Fox Films Corporation. One passenger was Mr Kenneth Hawks, a director, and husband of the cinema Mary Astor, and brother-in-law of Bessie Love. It was reported by a. third aeroplane from which an aviator was about to leap in a "stunt" parachute jump, that the pilot of the machine said; "I saw the aeroplanes meet head-on, burst into flames and drop into the sea, after which fishing boats rushed to the scene in an endeavour to rescue the occupants."
