The presentation, which £ook the form of a seagrass chair and an afternoon tea-set, was made by JTather Long. Messrs James McKay and Frank Eotheran, who have, been competing at the South Island Rifle Association tournament at Redcliffs, returned to-day. Mrs Alice Hannam arrived to-day jfrom Christehurch on a visit to her sister, Mrs "W. P. McCarthy. Slip at Botomanu. The heavy rain yesterday resulted in p, small washout on the railway line near Botomanu, but repairs were promptly effected, and there have been no delays in traffic. Engine Shed Levelled. • One of the old engine sheds at the Greymouth railway station yard collapsed yesterday. The building was a large one, and had been used for some :time as a shelter. An engine was ■hunting near the shed at the time, I ut jiot near enough to be damaged. Ambulance Outfit. The Greymouth Jockey Club has made several improvements to its ambulance loom, which makes it up-to-date and a eredit to thosv who have. interested themselves in this work. The first-aid outfit is completely filled with the most modern appliances, while a stretcher made to the design of Dr. J. F. C. Jloore, Superintendent of the Grey Hospital, is a'decided acquisition, and has many improvements on the old style of stretcher. The Weather. The rainfall for the 24 hours up to $ a.m. to-day totalled 1.19 in. At Reefton 1.35 in were registered. At Hokipika. a heavy westerly gale was experienced, and at Arthur's Pass, inches of tain were recorded for the 24 hours up to 9 &jn. to-day. The weather has been fine to-day, and looks like continuing flue. Passengers by Express. Two hundred passengars travelled by to-day's express from the West Coast to Christehurch, and 195 from Christehurch to Greymouth. Canterbury Cricketers. The Canterbury touring cricket team left Greymouth for XVestport this morning. On arrival they were accorded a •iric welcome, at which the DeputyMayor, Mr Robertson, presided. The other speakers were Messrs H. U. Holland, M.P., and Betts (chairman of the Buller Progress League). They play Buller to-morrow. The wicket is in excellent condition for the match. Motor Collision. A motor collision occurred on the Oreymouth-Grey Valley main highway at Omoto this afternoon, when one of Gibbs's service cars, driven by H. Bradley, bound for Westport, collided With a car coming to Greymouth, driven by Bert Stratford, of Kaiata; The latter'* car was badly damaged by the impact. The service car was not much damaged, and no one was hurt.
