ALLEGED HUSBAND MURDER.
ONE WOMAN ACQUITTED
(UKITBD PBESS ASSOCIATION—BI BLXCTRIC TELEOBAPH —COPYRIGHT.) (Received December 29th, 5.5 p.m.) BUDAPEST, December 27. The trial of the women concerned in the husband murders has been resumed. Esther Takacs was acquitted for lack of evidence to support the charge that she had poisoned her father-in-law. She declared that he pursued her with unwelcome attentions. She admitted purchasing fly-paper which she intended to use for legitimate purposes the following summer. The Public Prosecutor protested against the acquittal of Maria Casaibai, who declared that her husband was a drunkard, who ill-treated his family and who subsequently committed suicide. She withdrew her previous confession. but was found guilty of manslaughter and was sentenced to fifteen years' imprisonment. She successfully appealed against the sentence. fA cable message from Budapest on December 11th stated that the trial of 60 peasant women for alleged murder of their husbands had commenced. Intense desire to possess land was stated to be the chief motive for the c-rinies.]
