♦ MR L. F. CRAKANTHORP. Mr L. F. Crakanthorp, father of Mr Spencer Crakanthorp, Australian chess champion, died at Sydney last week. Mr Crakanthorp hud been a sick man for many months since his retirement from the staff 01 the Manly Council. In his earlier years he was a member of the New South Wales Police Korce. ut> to the time of his illness. Mr Crakantlmrp's main hobby, apart from chess. which he so successfully tauclu his son. walking, bv which moans lie covered not only a part, of Australia, bur nKo much iff Japan and New Zealand.
