RIFLE SHOOTING.
NORTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. (fbess association telegram.) WANGANUI, December 27. A strong north-east wind provided difficult conditions for shooting at the North Island championship meeting which opened at Putiki range to-day. Three matches, the service series, and the Putiki aggregate, were decided. Captain A Nielsen (Napier), the present holder of the North Island championship belt, won the Putiki aggregate with 142. Rifleman J. Patterson (Wanganui) was runner-up with 133. The Wanganui Match. 10 shots at SOOyds, was won by Rifleman W. H. Ballinger (Petone) with a score of 48: Rifleman Johnson (Featherston) was runner-up with 47, gaining that position in a count back, in which three others figured. Rifleman T. W. Warbnrton (Petone) headed the list in the Taranaki match, 10 6hots at 500 yds. His score was 47. The award was mads on a count back. Rifleman J. C. Cunningham (Hawera) was runner-up. The best scoring of the day was registered in the Masterton match, 10 shots 3t SOOyds. Rifleman C. H. Gower (Wanganui) gained one short of the possible, and won the match on a count back. Rifleman E. Wrigley also scored 49. Hl3 sighter was a four. which he discarded. He broke on his fourth shot, registering a four, thus losing the major position. Rifleman J. Patterson (Wanganui) reached 49 in the Wellington Match. Captain A. Nielsen (Napier) was runner-up with 48, and Rifl'man J. Turobull (New Plymouth) came third with 47. In the s=rvice match Rifleman P. C. Hamilton (Wanganui) and Captain F. Bolton 'Ooaki) both scored 33 out of a possible 40. Rifleman Berry (Tararua) made 31.
