WIRTHS' CIRCUS.

MANY NEW FEATURES. Nobody should miss seeing Wirths* Circus this time because of an idea that it has nothing new to offer in the way of thrills. Such a supposition would be quite erroneous. It would not seem like Christmastide if we did not have the circus with us once more, and, probably for the last time, on the big section in Moorhouse avenue, where the Canterbury Manufacturers' Association will have its Winter Show buildings. Every audience that has filled the big marquee so far has gone home satisfied that t&e proprietors of the circus, in spite of a. lifetime in catering for the public taste in such entertainment, are etill full of new iaeas, and are no more reluctant now than they have been right down tbe years to give tlieir audisnces the best talent, whatever the cost. It is five years since the last appearance of the great Muldoon, the inscrutable man with the cigar, who, it seems, has in a great measure the cat's faculty of landing on its feet His tumbling act is coloured by a good deal of quiet humour, and Muldoon is really an inimitable performer. Another new item is that given by the horse Hinkler and the pony Moncrieff, trained by Mr Philip Wirth. The Santey Duo perform wonderful feats in rings joined by a steel bar, which circles on a spindle, and keep the audience on tenderhooks throughout the act. Two of the best acts are kept for the last. These are the tumbling and balancing of the Lias troupe and the backward and forward somersaulting of the Firing Lamars, masters of the trapeze. The Lias introduce several new varieties of somersaults, and toss one another about on upturned feet in a manner which is a revelation of poise and strength. The Lamars provide perhaps the greatest thrill of the evening, with their fearless leaps in the upper atmosphere of the marquee. These and many other wonderful acts com- i bine to make the show the best that has been seen here for many years.
