"N.Z. REFEREE.'* FORM FOR THE HOLIDAYS. This week, if we except the Egmont Meeting, is the lull before the storm: the opening of the holiday carnival. Form generally is fairly well exposed by the time Boxing Day comes round, and it is in keeping race followers abreast of form that the "N.Z. Referee" excels. The current issue of that journal is, as usual, up to the minute in that field. The running at Woodville is reviewed and analysed. Notes on the Auckland and Manawatu Cups should help the punters. Track and stable talk from the leading centres of activity, from Ellerslie down to Invercargill, throws sidelights on dividend possibilities. Pictures of horses more or less in the public eye enhance the general turf feature, which includes an interesting account of recent racing in England, an Australian budget from the "Referee's" special correspondent in Sydney, and other matters of concern to racing folk. The adherents of the light harness sport are equally well catered for. This week's section contains as its chief items a detailed account of the New Brighton Summer Meeting, and the latest news from Auckland way on the doings and prospects of a large number of horses down to compete at Alexandra Park in a few days' time. Here, again, pictures to a generous extent are provided. It may be just as well to add the remainder here that next week's "Referee" will be out two days earlier than usual owing to Christmas Day falling on Wednesday. The same applies to the pre-New Year issue. The one next week, in particular, will be a veritable punter's feast.
