A WALK THROUGH HAY'S.

Quite one" of the most interesting places in Christehurch at present is the new store of Hay's Limited, in Gloucester street, which already has become a remarkable centre of interest. The novel features introduced* by this Firm have certainly made an appeal to the Christehurch public, and the expressions one hears on all sides are in commendation of the new enterprise. Hay's Limited made a bold move in establishing their business off the main thoroughfare, but the results of the past few days certainly seem to justify the hope that the Founders of the business had, i.e., that the public will go a little out of their road to secure goods of standard quality at uniformly low prices. Since opening last Friday the Men's Section has been particularly busy, and something in the nature of a record has been established in the quantity of Ties, Handkerchiefs, Socks, etc., that have been sold for gift purposes. Hay's range of Ties is particularly attractive, an exceedingly popular line being sold at Is lid each. There will also be on sale during today another big purchase of Ties, which will be sold at Is 6d each. There are, of course, better quality ties ranging up to 4s" 6d. Socks of all kinds are being shown in a wide choice, a very popular line being a line of Art Silk and Cotton Socks, selling as low as 2s. There are better qualities being shown at 3s 9d and 43 Gd. Another large purchase of fancy Cashmere Socks has been made, and these will be sold at 2s 9d pair to-day. A line of Men's Pyjamas at 6s 3d will make an appeal to many purchasers of a low-priced Pyjama of decent quality. For men desiring Lumber Jaekets, Pullovers, or Cardigans, a specially attractive range of sample garments is being shown at extremely moderate prices. These are high quality goods, made by one of the leading New Zealand mills. For those desirous of purchasing something in the nature of substantial Christmas Gifts, a particularly nice sample range of Eiderdown Quilts, varying in price from 3os 6d to S guineas, will make a special appeal. Large savings are possible by purchasing these quilts iust now. . Likewise a special display of Chinese Grass Linen Afternoon Tea or Bridge Cloths, with 6 Naps to match, at 17s Gd, will prove a very attractive item for those in search of Christmas Gifts. A special display of handsome Indian hand-made Bedspreads, Curtains, and Table Covers-is arousing much interest, and rnanv have been sold. These are superior goods, ideal for gift occasions. The Ladies' Hosiery Section has alreadv established itself strongly in public favour. Hay's policy of being uniformh- low in price applies to the Hosierv Section as to others, excepting in certain instances where one or two standard makes of Hosiery are carried, which must be sold at. a recognised selling price. Hav's Hosiery prices are 2s 6d, 3s 6d, 4s 9d, 6s lid, 8s lid. and 10s Gd, and without question these values are unrivalled in the City. In the Fancy Section there is being shown a verv choice selection of French Powder Bowls. These are dainty hand-made goods, and are ideal for Gift occasions. Another novelty on the Fancy Counters are a number of quaint Door Stops. These are designed in fancy Cat and Dog figures, and are particularly attractive.
