WIRTHS' CIRCUS.
In its jubilee year, for it has been flourishing for fifty years, with two of the founders still at the helm, Wirths' Circus will open in Christchurch on Saturday after noon, December 21st, for a short season only. There will be matinees every afternoon. The location is in Moorhouse avenue, opposite the railway station. A circus is naturally a place where gymnastic and acrobatic feats are expected to be seen at their best, but the talent with which Wirth Bros, are regaling the Australian and New Zealand public this year is exceptional in the extreme, an unprecedented number of star acts filling the programme and furnishing an entertainment such as has never before been enjoyed in this part of the world. At the cost of £SOOO, the Wirth Bros, have bought the greatest performing pure white polar and brown bear act in the world, positively seen at every performance. The Lias Troupe of six Risley acrobats—the highest salaried artists in the worldopened Sydney's eyes; the Flying La Mars made Sydney's hair stand on end with their extraordinary trapeze work, and the Three Areonas —to mention but three of the star turns—made many thousands gasp with astonishment at their wonderful balancing feats, the beautiful Betty Areona fully substantiated her claim to the title of "the most daring woman in the world." Claudia Alba, world's famous feminine athlete, and partner; Mr Philip Wirth, jun., trained horses and ponies. Fully a score of other turns round out a wonderful programme, which ia preceded by an hoar allowed for the inspection of the animals in the menagerie, whose numbers have been added to since the show last visited this town, and includes two black panthers and two baby leopards, six polar and five brown bears. The zoo opens before the circus performance, and from « to 5 p.m. The box plan is at The Bristol.
