BECKENHAM BURGESSES ASSOCIATION.
The monthly meeting of the Beckenham Burgesses' Association was held last evening, Mr J. A. Ayres presiding. The Town Clerk wrote that arrangements had been made to have all channels swept daily during the summer or until such time as more sewer connexions were made. Roads in the district were now receiving attention, and paths would be repaired within two months. The Heathcote County Council wrote advising that work will be done in Malcolm avenue when opportunity occurs. Permission had been granted for the New Brighton Band to hold a concert in Beckenham Park last Sunday, the collection going to the local Library Committee. It was resolved to send a letter of thanks to the band for their generous action. Members spoke of the need for a band _ rotunda Beckenham Park, it being decided to write to the Council in this matter. With reference to the loan for kerbmg and channelling in Western and Eastern terraces, the Town Clerk wrote informing the Association that the Medical 1 Officer had written stating he could not see bis way clear to support the Council's application to the Board of Health on grounds of urgency as a matter of public health. A suggested alternative would be to take a poL of ratepayers to raise a loan, but it was doubtiu whether the Local Bodies' Loans Board wou d approve of the raising of a loan ?n view of the refusal of the Medical Officer wO re commend the work. This letter caused con siderable discussion, all members agreeing that the matter should not be e<i drop. With the hot weather coming on. was a menace to the health of the aistric . Seeing that the question was vital to *ae health of the children. 5: was decided tbat .the School Committee bp asked to back up the Association in the matter. The considered that in view of the fact tm. was now in the district, the que * of the control of footpaths and was cut of the control of the Health ■ and the Council should attend to the urgently.
