The cattle yarded at the Johnsonvilie stock ■ale to-day comprised mostly prime heavyweight bullocks, with a few pens of lighter sorts. A consignment of particularly prime quality cows and heifers was also offered. Competition was good at reduced limits. Prices for all classes of beef except vealers showed an easing tendency. Vealers were in keen demand. The sheep yarded were mostly shorn, with an odd pen of woollies. Competition was good, with prices on a par with last week's rates. Lambs were yarded in larger numbers than previously, and met with a ready sale at prices about 2s per head below late values. Prices: —Extra heavy bullocks £l7 10s to £lB ss, heavy £ls to £l6 10s, medium £l3 to £l3 17s 6d; heavy heifers £l3 7s 6d to £l4 17s 6d; heavy cows £l4 ss; vealers £2 18s to £6; heavy woolly wethers 38s; heavy shorn wethers 29s to 30s, medium shorn wethers 28s; heavy woolly ewes 30s to 31s; heavy shorn ewes 22s 6d to 235; medium shorn ewes 20s to 21s 6d; woolly hoggets 30s to 31s 6d; spring lambs 24s to 28s 6d. BURNSIDE MARKET. (rasss associatiox tiliobam.) DUNEDIN, November 6. Several classes of fat stock sold at firm rates at the Burnside sales to-day. Fat cattle, however, slumped badly, and the market in this section was not in favour of producers. Sheep in the wool were also easier, but shorn sheep were unchanged. Fat lambs met with a firm demand, while store cattle and pigs were in keen demand. Fat Cattle —The yarding numbered 248 head, comprising good average to prime quality bullocks, some being extra heavy, and a fair proportion of prime heifers and cows. Opening sales were on a par with last week, but the market eased to the extent of 10s and £1 per head. Heavy bullocks made to £25, medium £2l 10s, light £lB 10s; extra heavy heifers £ls 15s, medium £l4 10s, light £l2 ss; heavy cows £ls 10s, medium £l3 ss. light £ll 15s. Choice ox beef sold round about 50s per 1001b. Fat Sheep—There were only 1560 fat sheep penned. With the exception of about 300 animals, all were in the wool. There were more fine-wool sheep than usual, with a fair entry of heavy wethers and ewes. The demand was irregular, early sales being from Is to Is 6d cheaper, to firm later about 9d per head for wethers. Ewes showed no improvement, and prices for shorn sheep were unchanged. Extra prime wethers in the wool made to 50s 6d. prime 48s, medium 445: heavy ewes 35s 6d, medium 30s. Maiden ewes sold from 40s to 455. Best shorn wethers made to 325. best shorn ewes 28s per head. Botchers' sheep in the wool sold at sid per lb. Fat Lambs —A total of 86 fat lambs were offered, and met with a good demand, opening sales being on a par with last week's rates, to improve 2s 6d per head towards the close. The heaviest lambs sold to 35s Od. prime 335, medium 28s. Prime lambs sold on a basis of Is per lb. Store Cattle —The entry numbered 330 head, comprising some good bullocks and medium steers. The balance of the yarding consisted of mixed cows and inferior yonng cattle. There was a firm sale, prices showing an advance of 10s per head for best grades. Best three-year-old bullocks made to £l.l 16s, medium £lO, good two-year-olds £8 17s. Pigs—The market was one of the brightest spots in the sale. The yarding of 71 fats and 83 stores met with keen competition. Porkers were dearer by 7s 6d per head, and bsconers were firm. Stores were firm at late rates.
