LATE MR A. L. SMITH.
THE FUNERAL. The large number of mourners at the funeral on Tuesday morning of Mr A. L. Smith, head of the firm of Blackburne, Smith and Co., Ltd., testified to the esteem and respect in which he was held by his many business acquaintances and the many friends he made in his distinguished career as a sportsman. The cortege left his late residence, 166 Rossall street, for the Riccarton churchyard, where the Rev. H* T. Yorke conducted the funeral service. The pall-bearers were Messrs A. G. Henderson, S. K. Garriek, D. T. Matson, A. E. Ridley, J. S. Barrett, and Howard James. Messrs A. V. Smith, George Armstrong (Akaroa), F. Pyne, and W. B. Pyne, and Miss Smith were the chief mourners.
