Thero were two lines forward from the North Island—one of 42 and another of 36, both from Hawke's Bay. They wera both prime medium to heavy-weights. Splendid quality cattle were also forward from Otago, Barks Peninsula, and the West Coast. Taken as a whole, the quality of the entry was distinctly good, and there «afl an abundance of light and medium-weights of nice finish. The outset of the sale saw prices obtained which were in the main practically equal to those of last week, but it was not long before a decided easing was noticeable. For all classes prices showed a decline, which averaged from 15s to 30s per head. The top price for steers was £22 12e 6d. This figure was secured by C. E. Kay (Decanter Bay) and by the top pen of the North Island line of 42. This line averaged £2O 14s 6d. The top heifer price—£lß 2s 6d—was secured fcy J. and O. Thacker (Okain's Bay) and J. Michael, jun. (Tai Tapu). A cow sold on account of A. P. Chamberlain (Barnham) brought £lB 173 6d. Fout prime two and a lalf-vear-old steers, on account of J. D. Wyllie (Sefton), were sold at £l6 17fl td. Medium-weight prime etecr and light-weight heifer beef made from 46s to 48s per lOOlb, occasional pens slightly more, medium-weight prime 423 6d to 455, heavy 40s to 43s 6d, good cow 41s to 4i*. secondary 36s to 395, and rough down to 33«.
