DONOVAN BEATS GRIFFITHS. (PBZSS A.BSOCIIXIOH TELBGBAM.) NEW PLYMOUTH, October 18. Tommy Donovan (Waitara) defeated Tommy Griffiths (Dnnedin) by > technical knock-out in the twelfth round of a scheduled fifteen rounds' fight before a record crowd. Both scaled Bst 131b. It wag an extremely willing contest, in which Griffiths, by his cleverness in the earlier rounds, saved himself much punishment, but Donovan was always predominant. Griffiths was twice down in the tenth round. The end came in the twelfth, when Donovan ripped a right to the body and right crossed to the heart. Griffiths went down for nine. He rose, and Donovan rushed him to the ropes and crashed three rights into his jaw. Griffiths was out, but remained erect by hanging on to the ropes, and the referee stopped the contest.
