USE OP POISON ILLEGAL. (PRESS JSSOCJATIOK TILEURAJt.) WELLINGTON, September 16While it is not an offence to lay poison for rabbits, it is illegal to poison opossums. Reference was made in the House of Representatives on Friday, that in certain districts opossums were being poisoned by the use of cyanide. Referring to the matter to-day, the Minister for Internal Affairs (the Hon. Mr de la Perrelle) said that some complaints had been made about the poisoning of opossums and enquiries were being made. The regulations provided that opossums could be taken by license holders with the aid of a running noose or trap. Where opossums were doing damago to orchards, the law laid it down that the animals could be destroyed.
