BIG ROAD RACE. OFFICIALS AND PRIZES. The executive of the North Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Athletic, Cycling, and Axemen's Union, met on Thursday:— The. following were present: Messrs W. J. Walter (in the chair), T. P. O'Rourke, (J. Henderson, P. C. CrooJce, W. C. Miller, W. Cole,. and P. 0. Lucas. The secretary reported that arrangements *Bl' in hand to* the Tuawu-to-Chriet-chtirch road race, to be held on October sth, and that the entries were coining in steadily.. The following special club and district prizes were offered for the race: —Gust Sportß Club: The first.member of the club to finish (not receiving any other prize), £2 2s. In the event of a club member finishing between tenth and sixteenth, the member to have the option of taking the Cust prize. Mairehau Sports Club: The first financial club member to finish (not receiving any other prize), £2 2s. Kowai Athletic Cfiib: The first rider of the Kowai district to finish, £1 Is. South Canterbury Caledonian Society: The rider from between the Rangitata ■ and "Waitaki rivers securing fastest time, £5. Tinwald Cash Cycling and Athletic Club: The first Ashburton County rider to finish unplaced, provided he is a member of the Tinwald Club, £1 Is.

The offers of Messrs P. C. Crooke and W. Marsh to provide official cars for the road race were accepted with thanks. The secretary was instructed to write to the Halswell and Paparua County Councils with a view to closing the Main South road on the afternoon of the race. It was decided to insert a clause in the conditions of the race to the effect that a rider who has withdrawn from the race must not on any oondition enter the enclosure at the Show Grounds.

K. Archer) to be invited to present them.

PAPARUA CLUB.

The Paparua Cycling Club held a 85 milea road race at Riccarton on Saturday afternoon. The race started and finished at the Riccarton racecourse The roada were in good order for racing. J. W. Jordan, C. J. Sowden, S. A. Jordan, and W. L. White occupied the scratch mark and conceded a limit of . llmin. A good finish resulted as follows:

PAPANUI CLUB.

A twenty-five-mile road race, promoted by the Papanui Cycle Club, was held at Kaiapoi on Saturday afternoon. Out of 36 starters 15 riders finished, the following being the W Sni (l" Hughey (7imin), time 72m 47s t B" W. Daley (7imin), 72min 47sec .. a' R. Morris (7Jmin), 72min 48sec .. 8 p" C Muir (BJmin), 73min 48 3-ssee .. 4 F J. Grose (scr) recorded the fastest time, «Bmin 27 8-ssec, and L. J. Richards (scr) the second fastest. 68min 28sec.
