ACCLIMATISATION.

NORTH CANTERBURY SOCIETY.

The Council of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society met last night, the president (Mr G. Robertson) being in the chair. Mr D. F. Bobbs reported that he and Mr G. Studholme bad spent a day looking for riflemen in the bosh near the hilltop hotel, in the Kaituna Valley, and near Lake Forsyth, but had been unable to find any to put in Dean's Bush. The day was very windy and particularly unsuitable for finding the birds, even if they had been there. The Lakes "Committee reported that there were 60,000 rainbow fry available for liberation this season. They were to be liberated as follows:—Lake Pearson 25,000, Lake Lyndon 20,000, Lake Georgina 6000, Lake Grasmere 5000, Lake Letitia 5000. It was not considered advisable to liberate rainbow fry in Lake Shepherd this season. It was reported that the Inspector of Fisheries had advised that the Department was unable to supply the 80,000 salmo aalar ora as asked for by the Society. Members decided that they would renew their request later on. The report was adopted. The report of the Deer Committee stated that there had been practically no response to the request for deer heads to hang in the Empire Club, London. The appointment was recommended of an officer to look after deer i at a salary of £5 a week, the Societyto find ammunition. The report was adopted. H Godby be nominated by the Society.
