Basketball. Two teams from the Addington School visited Lyttelton yesterday, and played against teams representing the primary der partment of the Lyttelton District High School. The visitors won both matches. lighting of BaUvay Btttioa. Last night the electric light was turned on for the first time on the Lyttelton Mil* way station, nine electric lamps replacing four gas lamps on the plattfonn. The booking office and other parts of the station, as well as the goods office are included in the scheme, which will later be extended to the goods shed. Seamen's Institute. Instead of the weekly concert given in the Seamen's Institute on Tbursdsy, a whist drive (arranged by Mrs F. Mintey) was held. An enioyable evening was spent, and at the conclusion of play prizes were given to the successful players. Snpper provided by the Christchurcb Guild was afterwards served. Shops Broken Into. Some time during Thursday night or early yesterday morning the shops of Sir A. Miller and the Pacific Fisheries in London street were broken into. In the case of Mr Miller's shop, the entry was effected through a skylight, but the marauders on!y gained aocess to the vegetable store-room, access to the shop being barred by a heavy door, and nothing was taken. The Pacifi? Fisheries was entered from the rear, and a small sum in silver was removed from the cash register. A crude attempt wa3 made to pick the lock of the safe In the office, but was unsuccessful.
