BEAUTIFYING SUMNER.

MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. Mr S. K. Bassett presided oyer a meeting of the Sumner Beautifying and Beach , Improvement Association on Thursday evening. The secretary reported that several Norfolk Island pines on the Esplanade had been replaced. Ornamental flowering cherries had been planted alternately between the chestnut trees at St. Leonards Park, and a uumber of redwood and American cedars in the gullies at Scarborough Park. * The secretary was instructed to thank Mr James Young for assistance in completing the season's planting. Mr C. N. : Aiken wrote on behalf of the All Saints' Church choir enclosing £6, .'.part proceeds of the concert recently given by the Robert Francis concert party in aid of the Unemployment relief fu#ds. A vote of thanks for the ontributi&p was passed. Mr Arthur C. Wilson wrote offering a section of land on Upper Clifton, if it would assist the Association's finance. Appreciation of the offer was expressed, and a sub-committee, consisting of Messrs Bassett,. Buxton, and Young, was appointed to deal with the matter. The treasurer reported a credit balance of £26. It was stated that the construction of flower and grass plots at Cave Rock was nearing completion, and it was decided to pay to the Borough Council relief fund the sum of £3O, including £6 from the concert already paid in, which, with the Public Works subsidy, should about cover the cost of the last section of the work.
