BUILDINGS IN MELBOURNE SHAKEN. (CKITED PBSB3 ASSOCIATION—BX eidSCTIWC —COPTBKJHT.) MELBOURNE, September 18. An earth tremor roused sleepers m the suburbs. There was a loud explosion, followed by rumbling, the rattling of windows, and the shaking of bqilcP inga. No great significance is attached to the disturbance at the observatory.— Australian Press Association. NEGLIGENT DRIVING. _ « (paesa association raxeasAV.) DUNEDIN, September- 13. Ernest William Haggitt, charged with negligently driving a motor vehicle, was fined £lO and prohibited from driving for twelve months. The police stated that a young woman alighting from a tram was struck and pushed some distance along the ground, having to receive medical attention. Defendant was driving at an excessive speed.
