Steady supplies of vegetables have been coaling forward during the week, and prices have been firm for all lines. Cabbages sold at auction at up to 18s a dozen, and cauli-. flowers up to 13s a dozen. Lettuces, which' are in short supply, brought 7s lOd a dozen, and marrows up to 20s a dozen. A small consignment of green peas which came forward realised Is 2Jd per lb. Supplies of j potatoes were plentiful, and prices were in clined to be slightly easier. Good quality onions are now becoming scarce, and values are firmer. Some ot the onions from me cool stores are coming on to the market. Hot-house cucumbers met with a good demand at from Is to 1b Id per lb. Local hot-house tomatoes are scarce, and are commanding high prices, yesterday's values being from 2s 8d to 2s 10d per lb. Coloured varieties of apples are coming to hand ex cool store, and both dessert and cooking are scarce and dear. Jonathans are realising from 8s to 10s a case, Delicious up. to 12s 6d, and cooking varieties to 9s. Supplies of Stunners are still plentiful, and there is' no change in values. There are still a few Navel oranges available ex the Manuka, and they are meeting with a steady demand. A small shipment of Sydney pineapples and passion fruit came in this week. (SPECIAL TO THE FBESS.) INVERCARGILL, September 13. Business in the local fruit mart continues in a satisfactory state. Spring rhubarb is now coming forward regularly and meeting with a keen demand. There is a good enquiry for all spring vegetables. Choice cauliflowers are keenly sought after, and realising good values. There are plentiful supplies of apples, but the demand is confined to first grade fruit. There are still full supplies of navels in stock, but these will probably be absorbed before fresh supplies come to hand. Ripe bananas are available, and ruling reasonable in price. The next supplies are duo early in October. Choice dessert pears are selling freely. Current prices are as follows: —Dessert apples 6s to 10s 6d per case, cookers 4s 6d to Bs, dessert pears 3d per lb, navel oranges 22s to 30s per case, lemons to 30s. Poorman oranges to 12s, rhubarb to 7b per dozen bunches, cauliflowers to Ss 6d per dozen, cabbage to 4s, parsnips 14s per cwt, carrots to 12s, spring onions to 2s per dozen bunches, lettuce to 5s per dozen. POULTRY AND EGGS. The supply of poultry coming forward for the markets is decreasing, and good prices are ruling, particularly for hens and table eh : ckens.
