BROKE TERMS OF PROBATION.
YOUNG WOMAN'S BAD RECORD. [THB Ntass s«rvie«.l AUCKLAND, September 7. Myra Webster, aged 30, was brought before the Police Court this morning on a charge of failing to comply with the terms and conditions of her release on probation. _ . • Accused, who was arrested in Canstchurch on this charge, pleaded not guilty- , Major Annie Gordon, female probation officer, said that accused was admitted to probation for five years in 1926 by the late Mr J. W. Poynton, BM. "She has not complied with the turns of her release in any way," said Major Gordon. "I've reported myself to the probation officer," said accused. Major Gordon: That is quite correct; vou have, but your probation ordered you not to take drugs or go to races. The Magistrate (Mr P. K. Hunt,S.M.): I have had reports about this young woman. She has been taking drugs, drinking, and going to races and consorting with undesirable people. I know what I am going to do with her. She is either going to gaol or else to the inebriates' island." "I'll go to gaol then," said accused. Mr Hunt: Very well then, you will get six months. Later, the Magistrate recalled accused and told her that, as the papers aud files from Christchurch had not arrived, he would defer sentence until next week. The sentence of six months' imprisonment was therefore remitted and accused was remanded until Monday. "I will probably give her a little more then," said the Magistrate.
