NATIONAL ART GALLERY.
PLANS TO BE CALLED FOR. [TBS PBBSS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, September 8. An important step towards the creation of the National Art Gallery in Wellington, for which £95,000 has been subscribed, and for which the Government has promised £IOO,OOO, will be taken within a few days. This will be the advertisement ot the terms of the contest, to be held to provide plans for the building. Sub-at-antial prices are to be offered, and Messrs C. W. Wood OChristchurch), W. Gray Young (Wellington), and J. W. Mawson, Director of Town Planning, have been appointed the jury of award. The money for the establishment of the Gallery and Museum is now assured, as a considerable portion of the £95,000 is bearing interest. An important qualification of the Academy is that the committee must satisfy itself that sufficient accommodation is permanently available in the new building for the carrying out of the objects and purposes of the Academy.
