WOMAN SHOT DEAD

HUSBAND GRAVELY WOUNDED. TRAGEDY ON ST. CLAIR BEACH. (rUH AMOCXMIO* TSIJKMUKJ DUNEDIN, August 7. A tragedy that appears to hare bee*) based on domestic unhappineas occurred here to-night, as a result of which a woman lost her life and her husband lies in the hospital in a serious condition. The names of the persons involved in the affair are William Henry Brauman, aged 45, and Dorothy Brauman, his wife, aged 36. The tragedv wu enacted at the St. Clair beach near the esplanade, about 8.30 p.m. Brauman was found in an unconscious condition with a bullet wound in his head. Cloae at hand was the body of his wife. She was dead, having been shot through the head. Later details show that the mur dered woman was walking along the Esplanade with her daughter, aged 14, when she was accosted by her husband, who simply confronted her for a minute or two", and practically without • word drew a revolver and shot her through the head. Death waa instantaneous, the body falling over the embankment on to the rocks below. Before the daughter had realised what had happened Brauman turned the weapon on himself. The shot «i not effective, however, though he turned the weapon upon his own head, and h* was still alive when Sub-Inspector Oummings, who lives nearby, and three detectives from the Central Station, arrived on the scene. The body of the woman was removes to the morgue, and Brauman was taken to the hospital, where the authorities report his condition to be not very serious. . Brauman had been separated from Mi wife for a year, but it is atated that even after separation he continued to be iealous of his wife, a state of mind which apparently drove him to desperation in the end. The eonple had feat ehlldren, the eldest a youth of nineteem, and the youngest a boy of tea, with two daughters in between.
