DOGS ON MOTOR-CARS.
CRUELTY ALLEGED. The committee of the Cantelfbury Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals devoted some time yesterday to the consideration of a letter from Mr A. Edwards (read at yesterday's meeting of the committee"), which drew attention to the alleged cruelty of carrying dogs on running boards of motor-cars. Mr Edwards wrote that it seemed to him that carrying dogs on running boards when cars were driven in cold weather, must result in the animals suffering acutely from the cold. He knew personally of many dogs which had been bumped off and killed. He suggested that some kind of box should be fitted on the running board, to accommodate the dogs. In the discussion that ensued, it was admitted that the matter was a rather difficult one to deal with, but that it required attention. It was thought that the average motorist would not favour the erection of a box on the running board. It was decided to write to the Canterbury Automobile Association and to the Canterbury A. and P. Association, and ask them for suggestions.
