COUNTY COUNCILS.

PAPARUA. Mr Leslie presided at the last meeting of the Paparua County Council. The Diatrict Medical Officer of Health wrote stating that, in company with the District Government Analyst, he had paid, a visit to the Hornby district to investigate the complaints received regarding noxious fumes irom the works of Messrs Kempthorne, Prosser and Co. The doctor and his associate called on a number of the residents and discussed the subject with them. He also visited the works. At the time of the visit fumes of an unreasonable nature were escaping, but this only lasted for a short period, and was explained by the management as being due to a temporary defect in the belting, the fan having to be. shut off for repairs. The management had given the doctor a verbal undertaking that they would adopt all possible means to abate the nuisance. Mr James Burdon, of Blirnham, wrote thanking the Council for the prompt repairs effected on the Boundary road at Burnham. The manager of the New Zealand Refrigerating Company wrote thanking the Council for the promised lamp at the British Pavements corner. Messrs Collins and Kerr wrote asking for a supply of water on a portion of their Buruham property. This matter was referred to Messrs Langdale-Hunt, Manion, and Maginness to inspect. The director of the Technical College wrote stating that Mr McGregor Wright would retire automatically from the Board of Governors of the college. He had represented local bodies for some years, and was eligible for re-election. It was decided to support the nomination of Mr Wright, and Mr Maginness was appointed to attend at the college in the event of an election and cast the Council's vote in Mr Wright's favour. The Akitio County Council wrote _ asking for information regarding contributions to outside bodies for the maintenance of main highways outside the county's boundaries. The clerk's reply to the letter was read and endorsed. Mr P. Dillon wrote to the Council regarding the notice which he had received to clear rubbish off the footpath.
