BOROUGH COUNCILS.

RANGIORA. The Rangiora Bordugh Council met last evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr C. 8. Ayers) and Crß. C. W. Tyler, R. H. Bailey. C. E. Bell, W. C. "Wilson, J. Lindon, and W. E. Horrell. The Mayor reported that the amount received for the Earthquake Relief Fund was £204 8s Id. The committee of the Plunket Society wrote stating that the alterations to the rest room as suggested by the Council were not satisfactory, and asking for • further conference in the matter. It was decided to meet the Society and discuss the question. Miss Hollow, on behalf of the Rangiora High School, was granted permission to hold a street sale in aid of swimming baths for the school. An application from the Keiapoi Shipping Co. for permission to erect a timber rack in Alfred street was referred to the Building Committee. The following recommendations of the Works Committee were adopted: That Crg. Bailey, Lindon, and Horrell inspect Mr Teague's property m Percival street with power to act regarding the sanitary inspector's report; that the Rangiora County Council be asked to attend to Green street; that the foreman be paid full pay while sick for two months, the matter to bo reviewed again at the end of that period; that the plana and specifications submitted of alterations to Mr Scott's place in Good street be passed subject to the approval of the Building Committee. The Joint Committee made the following recommendation: That applications closing on Augußt 16th be called for the position of borough engineer to carry out the installation of the sewerage system, applicants to have actually had charge of the installation of a similar system in New Zealand, and to state salary required, but the Council to mention the sum of £BOO per annum es a guide; that the by-law regulating the parking of vehicles as prepared by the town clerk be approved; that the Council be represented at the Supply Authorities' Conference at Wellington on the 24th inst. The recommendations were adopted, and Crs. Bailey and Tyler were appointed to represent the Council at the conference. The recommendation of the Finance Committee that the A.M.P. Society be asked to hold back payment of the instalments on the sewerage loan until January, 1930, was approved ■ The town clerk reported that the electrical engineer and himself interviewed the borough solicitor on Wednesday and perused the agreement for the supply of electric power. One or two minor alterations were made and the agreement should be ready for the Council's seal at next meeting. The gasworks manager reported that 526,000 cubic feet of gas had been manufactured, an increase of 40.000 feet on last year's make for the same period. The tender of I. Tweedie, at £249, for the aupplv of 768 B«;. yds. of gravel, was accepted The resignation of J. Robb, stoker at the gasworks, was received and accepted, and a motion passed thanking him for hia eight years" service.
