The branch post office, which will be established at Wilson's store, at the corner of Opawa road and Hawford road, will be opened within a fortnight. Plunket Society. The monthly meeting of the OpawaSt. Martins branch of the Plunket Society was held at Mrs D. E. Hansen's residence. Mrs J. A. Tait presided. There were also present: —Mesdames S. Pearce, G. Lucas, D. E. Hansen, C. Holmes, B. Irwin, E. Wood, H. Quarrell, and J. Kane. The nurse's report stated that the number of visits during the month comprised 63 adults, 49 babies, and 19 older children. Two new members were elected. The question of opening a room at St. Martins to relieve the congestion at Opawa was discussed. The president reported that the Eev. H. Williams, of St. Mark's vicarage, Opawa, had lent the Anglican hall at the corner of Hills road and Wilson's road, St. Martins, for Plunket work. It was hoped to have this room ready for use on July 30th. It was announced that Nurse Bowron would be in attendance at this room every Tuesday from 2 till 5 p.m. The committee recorded its appreciation of Mr Williams's kind offer, also to Mrs G. Wood, Aynsley terrace, for a donation of a cupboard for the room, and Mr Pearce for a gift of sign-boards. In connexion with the combined Opawa-St. Martins-Woolston stall on Violet Day, August 30th, the committee will be pleased to receive any suitable gifts, which can be sent to Mrs Pearce, Ngaio street, St. Martins, and Mrs J. A. Tait, 85 Hawford road, Opawa. Scout Inspection. The St. Mark's Scout Troop was inspected recently by District Commissioner Major Furby, 20 Scouts being on parade. The Troop Committee, Mesdames Lewis, Lightfoot, and Small, were also present. The troop gave exhibitions of ambulance, firemen's, and i signal work, and songs and games, at the conclusion of which Major Furby outlined to the committee the policy of Headquarters, and offered useful suggestions. The Commissioner's report of his inspection to the Dominion executive stressed the need of two assistant scoutmasters, and has directed the Troop Committee to endeavour to secure these. The troop is a church organisation, and it is hoped some young Anglican man will offer his services. Arrangements are well in hand for the masked fancy dress social and euchre party on July 27th in aid of the Scout funds. District Roads. The Heathcote County Council is undertaking repairs to the footpath and gutter between the Opawa bridge and the railway bridge, in Clarendon terrace. The improvements will be greatly appreciated. Owing to the ground being very low-lying, this area has frequently been waterlogged, and almost impossible for people to use, causing much inconvenience.

A number of complaints have been made regarding the state of Hills road, from the bottom of Opawa road to Chapman's road, which urgently requires repairs, being in a shocking condition at present. The road is very narrow, and after rainfall the clay off the hillside eauses a quagmire. The small portion of footpath that exists is used by cyclists. The matter has been taken up by the St. Martins Burgesses' Association.
