Harbour Light Theatre. "Diamond Handcuffs," a mystery story starring Kleanor Boardman and Conrad Nagel, will be repeated at the Harbour Light Theatre, to-night, together with two comedies, a New Zealand gcenic. news, and an Oswald cartoon-To-morrow. "The Lariat Kid," a comedyromance featuring Hoot Gibson, and ''A Woman Redeemed," a drama starring Brian Aherne, will be screened. The supporting programme includes a gazette and nature i-tudy film. Tennis Club Dance. The Excelsior Hall presented » gay appearance on Wednesday evening on the occasion of the Te Whaka Tennis Club's annua! dance. In addition to a larze number- of members and their friends, there were present many visitors from kindred club?. Norton, J.P., presided at the Magistrate's Court yesterday afternoon. James Sweetingham, a greaser in the Hororata, was charged with having received from George William Knight one pair of lady's shoes valued at 40s, tbe property of the N.Z. Shipping Co. He pleaded guilty. Knight was charged with stealing the shoes, and pleaded not guilty. Frank Edwin Teller, second officer of the Hororata said that on the arrival of tbe ship at Lyttelton on Wsdnesday afternoon he inspected the hatches and discovered extensive pillaging. Part of the stolen goods were afterwards discovered stowed away in various parts of the ship and on the wharf. Sweetingham gave evidence that he had been asked by a member of the crew of the Katoa to get a pair of shoes. He went aboard his own ship, the Hororata, and asked Knight for a pair, and was later given them. When taking them across to tbe Katoa ho was arrested. Constable W. J. Irwin said he had kept watch on the Hororata, and saw a man crosß three times between the Hororata and tho Katoa. He arrested the man, who .proved to be Sweetingham. He admitted tho offence. Sergeant J. W. H. Dunlop said the pillaging bad been seriou?, and would probably run to hundreds of pounds. Whole bolts of cloth bad been taken, and at least ono bolt had been thrown overboard. The pillaging had commenced before the ship reached Auckland. He asked for a substantial penalty. The Bench said that in the last ca<e of a similar nature before the Court it had given warning that in future imprisonment would be imposed. Both the accused would be convicted and sentenced to one month's imprisonment with hard labour. Robert. William Earl, also a member of the stokehold crew of the Hororata, pleaded guiltv to receiving from some person unknown a quantity of sugar and cheese, valued at Bs, the property of the Union Steam Ship Sergeant Dunlop said that while Constables W J. Irwin and Y.. A. Trwin were patrolling the wharf on Wednesday night they saw the accused leave the Union Co.'s steamer Katoa with a bar. He was accosted, and the bag was found to contain sugar and tea. To the Bench, Tlarl said he bad begged the stores off some of the Katoa" s crew, as the drv rations in bis ship were a bit shbrl. A- senteuce of one month s imprisonment was imposed.
