COMBINED MEETING OP COMMITTEES.

A combined meeting of Apprenticeship Committees was held in the Conciliation Commissioner's room, Government buildings. There was an excellent attendance, representatives of thfl following oommittees being presents— Carpenters' and Joiners', Electrical Workers', Motor Engineering Trade, Engineering Trade, Leadlight and Glassworkers', Boot Eepairers', Plumbers' and Gasfitters', Coa h and Motor-Body Builders', Painters and Decorators', Boot Manufacturers', Furniture Trade, Chemists', Plasterers', Printing Trade, Gardeners', Bakers' and Pastrycooks'. Mr Bailey, Officer in Charge, Department of Labour, occupied the chair. Several questions were submitted by the Director of Education, Wellington, for consideration by the Committees. Considerable discussion took place and many suggestions were made. Members present, who were at the recent General Conference of Apprenticeship Committees held in Wellington, gave details of the attitude of the Conference towards the matter under discossion.

The following resolutions were carried unanimously: '" That this meeting endorses the principle embodied in the resolution passed by the General Conference. That one of the chief purposes of technical schools is the training of apprentices for industry supplementary to workshop training, and that in order that such may be given to the best passible advantage, the Government l>e urged to comply with the practical requests of the Trade Committees established ill each centre in conjunction with eaeh trade; that the proper place for workshop practice should be technical college. That proper Inboratory equipment should be provided in each place in which technical instruction is given."
